Exploring wine through art

What is vinthropology?

Vinthropology is a hybrid of the words “vino” and “anthropology”, the scientific study of human behaviour and cultural meaning. As such, it exists at the intersection of wine, art and culture. Vinthropology aims at exploring where these meet based on the affinity of perception, which not only links them together, but also cultivates meaningful experiences. Its scope is contained within the direct experience of tasting wine and extends beyond it indirectly by contextualising the function of perception in how we relate to the world around us.

Mission:

As an exploration of the relationship between wine, art and culture, Vinthropology’s mission is to ask questions in search of experiences which engage the senses and illuminate this connection. How can art and culture create a conceptual framework through which meaningful value is given to the moment of tasting wine? Vice versa, how can an attentive and curious approach to tasting wine influence our openness to perceive the world beyond the glass?

Danell Nelson is a sommelier living in the South of Italy where she runs a cultural association, Vinthropology aps, focused on exploring the relationship between wine, art and culture. The association has been largely inspired by this blog and the people she’s met along the way who share the same passion and spirit of curiosity and enquiry. She received her certification and training from the Associazione Italiana Sommelier (AIS) and has a specialised knowledge of Italian wine and culture. She also holds a BA (Hons) in Dance Theatre from Trinity Laban Conservertoire of Music and Dance in London where she had the opportunity to cultivate her love for creativity and the arts. In addition to Vinthropology, she writes articles about wine and paintings for the website  http://www.club-del-vino.com
